Dear MSC GeoMet users,
As announced in June 2025, the experimental version of the Global Deterministic Prediction
System
(GDPS)<https://eccc-msc.github.io/open-data/msc-data/nwp_gdps/readme_gdps_en/#data-of-the-experimental-global-deterministic-prediction-system>,
spectrally nudged by an artificial intelligence-based model, is expected to become
operational in April 2026 (date to be confirmed). This new version, which will improve
predictability by about half a day on day 7, will therefore replace the current version of
the operational GDPS and become the source of the derivative products available in our
open data offering.
Consequently, this new system will become the source of all GDPS-derived products
available through MSC open data services, including GeoMet.
Impact on GeoMet-Weather layers:
Starting next spring, GDPS layers in GeoMet-Weather will only be available under the
naming convention GDPS_15km_*. The current GDPS layers named GDPS.ETA*, GDPS.PRES*,
GDPS.CONV* and GDPS.DIAG* will be deprecated and removed in favor of their corresponding
GDPS_15km_* equivalents.
These legacy GDPS layers (GDPS.ETA*, GDPS.PRES*, GDPS.CONV* and GDPS.DIAG*) will cease to
be available when the corresponding source data are removed from the MSC Datamart (see
previous
announcement<https://comm.collab.science.gc.ca/mailman3/hyperkitty/list/dd_info@comm.collab.science.gc.ca/thread/J3C6K2MTYKWBAQAXXBRF3AV6IXFLQG74/>).

Comme annoncé en juin 2025, la version expérimentale du Système global de prévision
déterministe
(SGPD)<https://eccc-msc.github.io/open-data/msc-data/nwp_gdps/readme_gdps_fr/>,
piloté spectralement par un modèle basé sur l'intelligence artificielle devrait
devenir opérationnelle en avril 2026 (date à confirmer). Cette nouvelle version,
entrainant un gain de prévisibilité d'environ une demi-journée au jour 7, va donc
remplacer la version opérationnelle actuelle du SGPD et devenir la source des produits
dérivés disponibles dans notre offre de données ouvertes.
Par conséquent, ce nouveau système deviendra la source de l'ensemble des produits
dérivés du SGPD disponibles par l'entremise des services de données ouvertes du SMC, y
compris GeoMet.
Impact sur les couches GeoMet-Météo :
À compter du printemps prochain, les couches du SGPD dans GeoMet-Météo ne seront
disponibles que sous la convention de nommage GDPS_15km_*. Les couches du SGPD actuelles
nommées GDPS.ETA*, GDPS.PRES*, GDPS.CONV* et GDPS.DIAG* seront désuètes et retirées au
profit de leurs équivalents GDPS_15km_*.
Ces couches du SGPD (GDPS.ETA*, GDPS.PRES*, GDPS.CONV* et GDPS.DIAG*) cesseront d'être
disponibles lorsque les données sources correspondantes seront retirées du Datamart du SMC
(voir l'annonce
