Chers usagers des données ouvertes du SMC, Lors du prochain cycle d’innovation, en mai/juin 2024, le Système régional de prévision déterministe (SRPD)<https://eccc-msc.github.io/open-data/msc-data/nwp_rdps/readme_rdps_fr/> sera remplacé par une composante du Système global de prévision déterministe (SGPD)<https://eccc-msc.github.io/open-data/msc-data/nwp_gdps/readme_gdps_fr/> sur un domaine nord-américain. Cette composante sera disponible sur une grille lat-lon tournée de résolution 10km légèrement décalée vers l'est par rapport à la grille actuelle : [cid:image001.png@01DA4878.14A05C20] Ce changement est motivé par un souci d’améliorer la maintenance de nos systèmes opérationnels (cycles d’assimilation, simplification de la chaine opérationnelle, migrations informatiques, etc.) afin d’assurer la meilleure qualité possible de nos données et produits. De plus, une validation complète montre des résultats similaires, voire un impact positif des prévisions à court terme sur le domaine régional, par rapport au SRPD actuel (note technique à venir). Impact sur les données ouvertes du SMC Dans un 1er temps (mai ou juin 2024), les données vont demeurer disponibles sur la grille actuelle polaire stéréographique, avec pour seul changement le retrait du masque « no-data »<https://eccc-msc.github.io/open-data/msc-data/nwp_rdps/readme_rdps-datamart_fr/#a-propos-du-masque-no-data> dans le coin nord-est de la grille, puisque les données seront générées avec la nouvelle version du système qui offre une plus grande couverture géographique. Un échantillon est disponible à cette adresse : https://collaboration.cmc.ec.gc.ca/cmc/CMOI/Datamart/GRIB2/model_gem_regi... Par la suite, et dans un horizon à déterminer, cette grille polaire stéréographique sera remplacée par la grille lat-lon tournée élargie (grille bleue dans le graphique) afin d’intégrer les Caraïbes et le Mexique au complet ainsi qu’une partie de l’Europe du Nord. En même temps, nous en profiterons alors pour normaliser la nomenclature des fichiers disponibles sur le Datamart du SMC selon nos nouvelles conventions. Dans le but de limiter les impacts sur nos usagers, nous allons conserver pour une période prolongée la nomenclature SRPD (RDPS en anglais) pour tous les produits et données générés sur cette nouvelle fenêtre nord-américaine. Cela signifie, par conséquent, aucun changement immédiat dans le nom des fichiers disponibles sur le Datamart du SMC ni dans les couches WMS de nos services web géospatiaux disponibles via nos services de données ouvertes du SMC<https://eccc-msc.github.io/open-data/msc-data/nwp_rdps/readme_rdps_fr/>. Cette stratégie a été mise en place pour limiter au maximum les impacts sur nos usagers et faciliter une transition en douceur vers le nouveau domaine élargi. Sandrine ============================== Dear MSC open data users, With the implementation of the next innovation cycle, in May or June 2024, the Regional Deterministic Prediction System (RDPS)<https://eccc-msc.github.io/open-data/msc-data/nwp_rdps/readme_rdps_en/> will be replaced by a component of the Global Deterministic Prediction System (GDPS)<https://eccc-msc.github.io/open-data/msc-data/nwp_gdps/readme_gdps_en/> over a North American domain. This component will be available on a rotated lat-lon grid of 10km resolution, slightly shifted eastwards compared to the current grid: [cid:image002.png@01DA4878.14A05C20] This change is motivated by a desire to improve the maintenance of our operational systems (assimilation cycles, simplification of the operational chain, IT migrations, etc.) in order to ensure the best possible quality of our data and products. In addition, a full validation shows similar results, and even a positive impact of short-term forecasts on the regional domain, compared to the current RDPS (technical note to come). Impact on MSC open data Initially (May/June 2024), the data will remain available on the current polar stereographic grid, with the only change being the removal of the "no-data" mask in the northeast corner of the grid, since the data will be generated with a new version of the system which provides greater areal coverage. At a later date, and within a timeframe yet to be determined, this polar stereographic grid will be replaced by the expanded rotated lat-lon grid (blue grid in the graph) to integrate the entire Caribbean and Mexico, as well as part of Northern Europe. At the same time, we will be standardizing the nomenclature of the files available on the MSC Datamart according to our new conventions. In order to limit the impact on our users, we will retain for a prolonged period the RDPS nomenclature for all products and data generated in this new North American window. This means, therefore, no immediate change in the names of files available on the MSC Datamart, nor in the WMS layers of our geospatial web services available via our MSC Open Data Services. This strategy has been put in place to minimize the impact on our users and facilitate a smooth transition to the new expanded domain. We will keep you informed when the exact date of these changes is determined.
