[A tower in the middle of a forest Description automatically generated] (English follows) Chers usagers des données ouvertes du SMC, C’est avec une certaine émotion et une grand fierté que je vous annonce le déploiement du 32ème et dernier radar Doppler de bande S, Halfmoon Peak (CASHP), situé à Sechelt, en Colombie-Britannique équipé de la technologie de double polarisation, pour remplacer le radar de bande C, Mount Sicker (XSI), couvrant l’île de Vancouver. C’est donc la fin de ce grand projet de modernisation des radars canadiens débuté en 2017 qui a mobilisé plusieurs équipes multidisciplinaires dévouées au sein d’ Environnement et Changement climatique Canada (*). De nombreux secteurs économiques comme l’agriculture, l’exploitation des ressources naturelles, la pêche, la construction, l’aviation, le tourisme, les transports, la vente au détail et les investisseurs bénéficient désormais de données de meilleure qualité et d’une plus grande uniformité pour les épisodes de temps violent, les renseignements météorologiques étant essentiels à leur planification stratégique. La technologie à polarisation double permet aux prévisionnistes de mieux distinguer entre la pluie, la neige, la grêle et la pluie verglaçante. La portée Doppler accrue de 120 km à 240 km par radar permet un élargissement de la portée de détection des phénomènes de temps violent comme les tornades tout en offrant un meilleur chevauchement des radars avoisinants en cas de panne. This therefore marks the end of this major Canadian radar modernization project begun in 2017, which mobilized several dedicated multidisciplinary teams within Environment and Climate Change Canada (*). Many economic sectors such as agriculture, natural resources, fisheries, construction, aviation, tourism, transportation, retail and investors now benefit from higher data quality and consistency for severe weather events, as weather information is essential to their strategic planning. Dual-polarization technology enables forecasters to better distinguish between rain, snow, hail and freezing rain. The increased Doppler range from 120 km to 240 km per radar extends the detection range of severe weather phenomena such as tornadoes, while providing better overlap with neighboring radars in case of an outage.
