(English follows)
1PVU=1.10-6 m2 s-1K kg-1.
dynamiques. En général, l'air proche de la tropopause a une PVU d'environ 2 ;
Cordialement,
Sandrine

===================
Dear MSC Datamart users,
For your information, the pressure (Pa) over a constant potential vorticity unit (PVU)
surface has been added to the Global Deterministic Prediction System (*) and Regional
Deterministic Prediction System (**) data offer.
This new parameter "PRES_PVU" is available on the 1, 1.5 and 2 PVU surfaces with
1PVU=1.10-6 m2 s-1K kg-1.
As a reminder, the potential vorticity allows to follow the movement of an air mass, in
particular the vertical movements by giving an indication of the ascending or descending
air flows. It also allows to anticipate the development or weakening of dynamic weather
systems. In general, air near the tropopause has a PVU of about 2; air in the stratosphere
is generally >2 PVU, while air in the troposphere is generally <2 PVU. Therefore,
if at a given level in the troposphere the potential vortex is >2 PVU, that air can be
considered to have descended from the stratosphere and is very dry.
Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or need more information.
Sincerely,
Sandrine
