Cordialement. Sandrine ========================== Dear MSC Datamart users, The purpose of this message is to remind you that upcoming changes will happen to the High Resolution Deterministic Prediction System (HRDPS)<https://eccc-msc.github.io/open-data/msc-data/nwp_hrdps/readme_hrdps_en/> data, available on the MSC Datamart at this address: https://dd.weather.gc.ca/today/model_hrdps/continental/2.5km/ The precipitation accumulation data (snow, rain, etc.) since the beginning of the model run, which can be found in files YYYYMMDDTHHZ_MSC_HRDPS_WEASN_Sfc_RLatLon0.0225_PThhhH.grib2, are currently generated via the weather elements on the grid (WEonG)<https://collaboration.cmc.ec.gc.ca/cmc/cmoi/product_guide/docs/tech_notes/technote_weong-hrdps_e.pdf>. To allow our users to compare these data with equivalent precipitation accumulations generated directly by the model, we will make the following changes effective Tuesday, October 27, 12Z: * Files YYYYMMDDTHHZ_MSC_HRDPS_[WEASN,WEAFR,WEAPE,WEARN]_Sfc_RLatLon0.0225_PThhhH.grib2 will be renamed to YYYYMMDDTHHZ_MSC_HRDPS-WEonG_[WEASN,WEAFR,WEAPE,WEARN]_Sfc_RLatLon0.0225_PThhhH.grib2 * Files YYYYMMDDTHHZ_MSC_HRDPS_[WEASN,WEAFR,WEAPE,WEARN]_Sfc_RLatLon0.0225_PThhhH.grib2 will now represent precipitation accumulations from the model (and not from the weather elements on the grid) The impact will be minor, since this filename change will not break users’ applications, it is only the source of the data that will change. The results show that the difference between the precipitation accumulations since the beginning of the model run generated via the model and during post-processing via the weather elements on the grid are relatively small, so the scientific impact will be limited. We will also add new products from the weather elements on the grid (WEonG), i.e. precipitation accumulations by intervals, according to the nomenclature: * YYYYMMDDTHHZ_MSC_HRDPS-WEonG_[WEASN,WEAFR,WEAPE,WEARN]-[Accum1H, Accum3h Accum6h Accum12h Accum24h]_Sfc_RLatLon0.0225_PThhhH.grib2 The documentation<https://eccc-msc.github.io/open-data/msc-data/nwp_hrdps/readme_hrdps-datamart_en/#list-of-variables> will be updated accordingly. Thank you for your understanding. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Regards.
